Oh What a Bash
This past Friday was the Prima-Coffee Barista Bash 003 and it was pretty awesome. They had latte art competitions, brewing demonstrations, and lots of free coffee. What I became most excited about was showing my wife all of this coffee paraphernalia. She loves coffee, until now she has not experienced the benefit of truly amazing coffee. It was really a lot of fun trying out the different coffees and going from station to station learning about Pour Over Brewing for a Hario v60, Syphon Brewing for a Yama Coffee Vacpot, and of course the traditional Bodum French Press.
The highlight of the night had to be my opportunity to try a batch of coffee roasted by LaGrange Coffee Roasters. I had written in a previous blog that I had every intention of trying some local roasted coffee, but until now (due to my crazy schedule) I have not had the opportunity. The type of coffee I tried was roasted 3 days before and was a Ethiopian DP Jimma-Niguisie Lemme. I have to say this was some of the best coffee I have ever tasted. It was sweet and not bitter with so many flavors, including peach, plum, and even a hint of mango. I enjoyed it brewed in a Chemex Coffee Maker the best, but it was also good in a Hario v60. My friend Lee was brewing it for me and he said, “It’s so great when a coffee is roasted just right…it’s pretty common to get a good cup of coffee, but then there’s coffee that just gets you excited.” Thats what this coffee did- it got me excited about great coffee. What a coffee night! I highly recommend Smell The Smoke- Lagrange Coffee Roasters, and if you can make it to the next Barista Bash- you will not regret it!
Thanks guys for the very kind write up about our coffee. I only wish I had been able to make it to the event. I love everything local in the coffee setting!!! Keep up the fun work!!!
